| The Principles of Feng Shui I. The influence of the surroundings upon the house Having gone through thousands of years, the traditional Chinese Feng Shui did not tell about many brand-new things that appear or exist nowadays. therefore, we shall evaluate their impacts to the houses according to the principle of Feng Shui. The following is a brief list of the surroundings which are of impact to the house: 1) Road Spear Just as an old saying goes, ' a straight road is a spear ' If there is a straight road directly leading to the house, the family members might turn to be fragile in health and liable to illness and even more malignant disaster. Spear at the back In case the straight road leads to the house at the back rather than in the front, there might be troubles from the meany. Encircled Water If there is a sideway or a river lying in front of the house in camber, the resident is very promising to achieve prosperity and abundance in wealth. Zigzag As the old saying goes, ' Should there are nine twists leading to the entrance to the hall, would the dweller be the prime minister in the court.' It shows that the resident whose house commands circuitous pathway in the front, may attract wealth and abundance. Whirly Water If the road whirls or crooks in front of the house, it is an auspicious sign and will bring great fortune to the resident. 2) Buildings around If the house faces a narrow alley between two high buildings, the resident is of delicate constitution and prone to sickness, in the extreme, might suffer from deadly disasters. II. The influence of the house upon the resident 1) The Shape of the house 1. Good houses are mostly square in ground and pleasing to the eye. The house is either too much high, broad or narrow, there will be loss in wealth and accident to the resident. 2. The properties of the rich are generally regular in shape and elevated with positive energy. The walls are close, while allowing aplenty of light into the house, the patio is bright and tidy. In summary, all the layout is centralized and orderly. In contrast, if the house is pokey but high, without support all around, it is an isolated and lonely house. The resident in a house with broken pillar and tilted beam is prone to sickness. 3. If the house is gloomy, either too spacious or too pokey, it would be an evil house. The resident in a house with the layout in clutter or furnishings worn-out, could hardly gain riches. 4. If the house is but on extensive land, it will bring great fortune to a generation. 5. The home is different from the office. Office should be spacious and capacious, while home should be moderate in size and compact in room layout. 6. The bedroom and living room are different. The former should not be too big while the latter can be spacious. 7. The parlor should be neither high or low, then both the hosts and guests will feel comfortable and cogenial. Whereas, if the new houses are to be built with the old ones at both sides, the owner will gain fame and prosperity; The building materials are of high quality, then the family will thrive with large numbers of offspring; When the wood is moth-eaten or hollowed out, there could be handicapped (bind or deaf) residents. 2) Story 1. The story shall not be built straightly upon the main room or living room, the optimal choice is upon the back hall (bungalow) 2. In case there is a tower abut against the house, it is inauspicious for the people dwelling in the room on the left if the tower is on the left-hand side of the house. The right-hand side is alike. 3) Gate & Pathway 1. The door shall not be opened very frequently because it might disperse the energy of the house. It may also weaken the energy of the house in case there are multiple byroads of the pathway. 2. The main door shall face directly towards the office of military service, warehouse gate, temple gate or city gate, all of which imply ominousness. Either having a pathway straightly leading to the door or bent like a bow against the house in the front shows to be inauspicious. 4) Taboo 1. If the house is high in the front and low in the back, the resident may be in loneliness and solitude 2. If the house is of equal height in the front and back, but with high-rise in the middle, there would be chaos in marriage. 3. The houses lie on the four sides and there is no wall secluding the patio in the middle, there may cause malevolent or even deadly accidents to the resident. 4. The house is low on the left and right sides but high in the center, the resident is disturbed or unstable. 5. If there is a forest or woods in front of the house, there might be evil and haunted. 7. If there is resemblance of sword thrusting toward the back of the house, it is unfavorable to the resident 8. If there are flat at the back of the house, it is inauspicious 9. Behind the front main room, there are a couple of rooms in disorder, no matter in which direction, it is unfavorable to the children 10. There are eaves on the edge of steps, it may show diseases pertaining to blood 11. If there are three doors opened in a house, it is prone to quarrels and disputes 12. If there is a pond in front of the house, it implies keening 13. If there are stones cluttered in front of the house, it is inauspicious 14. The house should not locate in the vicinity of temple and church 15. If there are three pathways lining up paralleled in front of the main door, it is inauspicious 16. If the bearing of the door extrudes out, it is unfavorable 17. If the two doors of two rooms face each other straightly, it is in disharmony of the family 18.
